LAMU HOUSE–The following is my review from Trip Advisor
My boyfriend and I have had the opportunity to stay in many places all around Kenya, and I have to say Lamu House was absolutely one of our favorites.
We arrived at the Lamu airport expecting to find a boat to the island and were pleasantly surprised to find that Lamu House had found the flight we were booked on and sent someone to get us. When we arrived to the hotel we were greeted with fresh passion juice and the owner introduced himself to us, showed us around and even walked us up to our room.
The grounds were beautifully kept and our room was lovely. It was open air and the details in everything around the room was incredibly appreciated. Frank and his wife Marianne had left two kikois on the bed for us to use and take home with us as a reminder of our stay at Lamu House–was a wonderfully elegant way to welcome guests. The shampoo and conditioner were in beautiful little glass jars in the shower, and smelled delicious and looked like honey. The bed was extremely comfortable (so comfortable that I really wish I had checked the make of the mattress because it was sooo wonderful). The only thing that could have been a bit nicer was maybe an additional curtain between the bedroom and sitting area, as our sitting area had a fairly clear view of the room on the other side of the property. To be clear the sitting area did have light curtains, but sometimes when the wind blew them around, it made us conscious of making sure we had our kikois on our way from the bathroom to the bedroom. But honestly, this was our only small thing, everything else was perfect!!
We had a few meals in the restaurant that overlooked the water, and found the service and food to be wonderful (even the bread served as part of the meal was delicious and warm). I am also usually hesitant to drink juice or ice beverages in Kenya because of potential water problems, but I felt very safe doing so at this hotel and had no problems.
The pools were wonderful, clean and the perfect temperature. We also enjoyed the cozy sofas and tables all around the property to do some reading and card playing.
Everyone at the resort was wonderful, including the woman at the front desk (I forget her name) but she was very friendly and apparently has been with the hotel for the past five years (even before the current owners).
We felt very well taken care of and looked after, and at the same time were left alone to just enjoy each other and the property. We were also given a late check out which was very nice, and the owners even said goodbye to us in the morning before they took the afternoon off.
Lamu House was an incredibly lovely experience, and my only real wish was that we could have spent a whole week here, not just two nights. Thank you for such a beautiful experience!!
