After these two years, I still find myself coming here. Except now, I'm coming here looking to the entires where you were getting ready for his return home. 12 day countdown. Holy smokes!! I'm so glad this blog is here for reading. It has always brought me sunshine and helped in every way possible. Hope you both are doing well!

Cyrus! So sorry I missed your comment for such a long time! I hope all is going well for you both--I felt like the beginning and the end was the most difficult due to communication and schedules, so hang in there! Yes, my bf's grandmother had a similar experience with her husband from Italy. Best of luck to you both, and remember to communicate (even if it's in a journal that your partner may or may not read), it is incredibly helpful!! :)

Hi! I am a nominee and I am in the placement process. My circumstances almost parallel yours: my gf and I have been together for about a year and:
"My bf and I were both clear with each other about what we’ve wanted from the beginning. We found each other (which doesn’t happen every day), we love each other, we have fun together, we help pick each other up and are stronger because of the other–and so with that kind of rare find, we knew we wanted to give our relationship every chance to succeed, which meant as much communication as possible."

My single greatest concern is I might be placed somewhere where there is not constant electricity or access to Internet. But my grandma told me when grandpa came from Taiwan, they were apart for two years. With no Skype! Reading your experience gives me renewed strength and I plan on reading more with her when we can snuggle up together and talk about our feelings, excitement, and apprehension!

I just want you to know I've been referring to your entries since my boyfriend left for the Peace Corps in February of this year. We've made it this far, and I'm going to see him in less than two weeks! Our communication has been great, and we've really put one another first. That said, I finally cracked this week. It was the first time I felt that our relationship might be on rocky ground and the future seems more uncertain, though we plan on moving in together afterward. I think a lot of it is my guilt that I may be holding him back from really experiencing Peace Corps. Anyway, I guess I'm asking advice on how to prepare for the first trip to see him (it's for 8 weeks!). I think the reason I cracked is mostly because of nerves... but nevertheless, he agreed.

You are sooo welcome! Thank you for reading! Congratulations on rounding that last corner. Oddly enough, I found the last few months sometimes the hardest, so just hang in there! :)

My boyfriend just left for Uganda on Wednesday. I was really upset about it. And I miss him so so much! But reading your blog made me feel a lot better. I have sent him an email everyday that he has been gone telling him about my day just as I normally would. Today was the first time I have heard from him since he has actually been in Uganda. He responded back to all of my emails! It was the best feeling I have had this week! I'm wondering if looking back, did the time go by quickly?

Thanks!

Hello!

I wrote you a comment what seems like forever ago (about 2 weeks after my bf left for Gambia.) I just returned from dropping him off at the airport after a visit, and he has 6 months to go until he's home for good, which will be the shortest amount of time we've been apart so far. Everything is going well, and he still has my full support, but goodness, i'm glad that today is the last time i'll have to say goodbye to him like that.. I really just wanted to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for giving me hope when I needed it the absolute most. I'm sure that many other readers feel the same way since there aren't very many positive sources of support for those of us at home, and I wish you the best in all life has to offer.
